Karin Beyens
Karin Beyens, born in Aba (Congo), lives and works in Merksplas, Belgium.
Her memories of Congo have unconsciously influenced her artistic practice..
At the Highschool of Visuel Arts, she was taught by an excellent teacher who introduced her to abstract art of Malevich (the pioneer of geometric-abstraction), the Bauhaus movement, De Stijl and others.Ultimately, these lessons act as a trigger and laid the foundation for her contemporary work.
She went on to obtain a Master’s degree in Fine Arts ( Printmaking and Drawing) at Sint-Lukas in Brussels. During her studies, she mastered graphic techniques such as screen printing, lithography and etching. After graduating, she returned to her home region. Nearby was the international graphic art centre ‘Frans Masereel Centrum’, where she was given the opportunity to specialise in various graphic techniques for several years. The technique through wich she could best express herself became the drypoint etching. Instead of using zinc or copper plates, she uses Mylar foil inventively as her primary material.
Through the technique of the collage and drypoint etching, her work has evolved towards to geometric abstraction over the last few years. 2017 marked a definitive turning point towards a geomertic-abstract, minimalist style; prior to this, her work was figurative-abstract.
In the past decade, she has been participated in various international projects and group exhibitions focusing on non-objective, reductive, konkrete, and constructive art. She is also a member and reguluary exhibiting artist of a gallery dedicated to geometric abstract art.
Her work is represented in both public and private collections.
